Dear Students and Parents/Guardians in Grades 7–12,
I am writing to share an important update regarding the academic eligibility requirements for the National Honor Society (NHS) and Junior National Honor Society (JNHS) beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
The NHS selection committee has reviewed our current expectations and has agreed to raise the minimum cumulative GPA requirement for consideration for membership to 90%. This change reflects our desire to maintain high academic standards and ensure that membership in NHS and JNHS continues to represent a significant accomplishment and a commitment to excellence.
Beginning this school year, a student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 90% to be considered for NHS or JNHS. Students whose cumulative GPA is below 90% will not be eligible for consideration during the selection process.
It is important to note that meeting the 90% GPA requirement does not guarantee induction into NHS or JNHS. Academic achievement is one component of the selection process. Eligible students must also meet the additional criteria and expectations established by the respective organization, including demonstrated qualities such as leadership, character, service, and citizenship, as applicable.
We believe that membership in NHS and JNHS should be an honor that recognizes students who consistently demonstrate a high level of achievement and a commitment to making a positive contribution to our school and community. Raising the academic threshold is one way we can continue to uphold the significance of this recognition.
We encourage all students to continue working toward their academic goals and to take pride in the many ways they contribute to our school community.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and our commitment to high expectations.
